South Korea's largest opposition Democratic Party says it will not seek to impeach Prime Minister Han Duck-soo at this time. Han is serving as acting president after the National Assembly impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol on Saturday over his brief imposition of martial law. Attention had been focused on whether the opposition would also seek to impeach Han, given that he is a senior member of the Yoon administration. The leader of the Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, told reporters on Sunday morning that too many impeachments could lead to confusion in state affairs. He also proposed the creation of a national consultative body where the parliament and the government would work together to stabilize the situation. Observers say the Democratic Party is aiming to take the initiative in running of the government with an eye to a possible presidential election, depending on a ruling of the Constitutional Court on Yoon's impeachment.
