Suspension requested for Japanese ex-lawmaker GaaSyy's social media accounts NHK

Japanese police have asked social media operators to freeze the accounts of former lawmaker GaaSyy, who faces arrest for intimidating celebrities on videos he posted online.

GaaSyy, whose real name is Higashitani Yoshikazu, was expelled from the Upper House last month for not attending a single Diet session since being elected to the chamber last July.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for the ousted lawmaker on suspicion of repeatedly intimidating and slandering celebrities and business people between February and August last year.

GaaSyy is believed to be staying abroad. He has continued to post videos and messages on social media even after the arrest warrant was issued.

Investigative sources say Tokyo police have asked that his accounts for a video-sharing app and live-streaming website be frozen.

The ex-lawmaker has been ordered by Japan's Foreign Ministry to surrender his passport by April 13.
