Japan reports 226,904 new COVID cases on Thursday NHK

Japan's health ministry confirmed 226,904 new cases of the coronavirus nationwide on Thursday. This is the highest daily tally since the 8th wave of infections began last October.

Twelve of the country's 47 prefectures reported record daily totals on Thursday.

Nationwide, there were 334 deaths linked to the coronavirus.

The number of severely ill COVID patients stands at 650, an increase of 35 from Wednesday.
