Israel carries out targeted raid against Hamas NHK

Israeli forces carried out a limited raid of the Gaza Strip on Friday, ahead of an expected ground offensive against Hamas.

Israel's military says its tanks briefly moved into the enclave. Forces also carried out a series of targeted air strikes. They reportedly pulled out after the operation ended.

Hamas militants carried out a fatal attack in Israel over two weeks ago, killing over 1,400 people and kidnapping more than 200 hostages including foreigners. Since then, Israeli forces have been escalating their airstrikes on Gaza.

Palestinian authorities say those strikes have now killed at least 7,000 people, including around 3,000 minors.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his forces are preparing for a ground operation, but has not provided any details on when it will take place.

Meanwhile, residents in Gaza are quickly running out of food, water, and medicine. Health authorities there have released the names of those killed in Israel's attacks, after US President Joe Biden appeared to cast doubt on the death toll while talking to reporters on Wednesday.
