A senior US government member says the administration of President Joe Biden plans to send an unofficial delegation of former top officials to Taiwan after the upcoming presidential election on Saturday in Taiwan.
                
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the official said that the United States does not take either side regarding the election, and suggested that Washington&#039;s policy toward Taiwan will not change whoever wins the presidency.
                
The official said that the US plan to send an unofficial delegation to Taipei is nothing new, citing precedents composed of former high-ranking officials to the Taiwanese city. The official did not say when and whom the Biden administration is to send, adding that details have not been confirmed.
                
The official added that Washington does not speculate how China will react to the outcome of Taiwan&#039;s election, but Beijing will be deemed a provoker if it chooses to put further military pressure or use coercion against Taiwan.
                
The British economic newspaper Financial Times reported on Wednesday that the US delegation will be led by James Steinberg, a former Democratic deputy secretary of state, and Stephen Hadley, a former Republican national security adviser.
                
The newspaper cited multiple sources familiar with the plan. It said the delegation will be dispatched immediately after Saturday&#039;s election.
