Junior high teacher indicted on charge of killing resident in Tokyo NHK

Prosecutors in Japan have indicted a 36-year-old junior high teacher for stabbing to death a male resident near the school he worked at.

Omoto Kosuke was arrested in May on suspicion of killing 63-year-old Yamagishi Masafumi at his home in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward in February. Omoto is also charged with home intrusion.

Tokyo police have found that Omoto used to walk to the school along a road that runs in front of Yamagishi's home.

It is reported that footprints found inside the victim's home match Omoto's sneakers, and a blood-stained face mask found there was apparently worn by him.

He is also believed to have had debts of several million yen, or tens of thousands of dollars, from foreign exchange investments and gambling.

Prosecutors have not revealed whether Omoto has admitted to the allegations. He has reportedly remained silent during questioning by police since his arrest.
