2 killed as heavy rain lashes Beijing NHK

At least two people have been killed as heavy rain has caused flooding in Being and other parts of China.

State-run China Central Television and other media outlets are reporting that torrential downpours have been battering Beijing, as well as Hebei Province next to the capital, and some other areas since Saturday.

Two people were found in a river in western Beijing by a worker who was checking for flood damage to roads and other structures. The two were confirmed dead on the spot.

Footage from the site shows emergency workers and police officers conducting a rescue operation as muddy water flooded roads, and swept away vehicles.

Chinese weather officials say heavy rain could continue in many areas including Beijing, Hebei and Shandong provinces. They have issued their highest-level warning on a scale of four, while urging people to be alert for landslides.
