Group for Johnny Kitagawa's victims seeks relief for all affected people NHK

A group representing sexual abuse victims of the late Johnny Kitagawa is seeking relief for all affected people including those who never joined his talent agency.

The group said it has sent a request to the agency and disclosed the content on its website on Monday. Johnny & Associates changed its name on Tuesday to Smile-Up.

The group says it wants the agency to shed light on the whole truth.

It is asking that the people it recommends be included in a third-party panel of lawyers so relief can be provided while having talks with the victims. It also wants swift disclosure of the details of the relief and on the standards for recognizing and compensating victims.

The group notes the compensation now only covers performers or trainees who have belonged to the agency. It says many victims who never joined the agency are concerned about whether they will be acknowledged and that relief measures should cover them as well.
