An NHK survey shows that 30 percent of major Japanese companies expect the new US administration's policies will negatively affect their business. Many cited President Donald Trump's planned tariff hikes. The majority of respondents, 65 percent, said they could not say whether the impact of the policies would be good or bad. Two percent said they anticipate negative effects, while 28 percent said they expect effects will be moderately negative. Many said that higher tariffs would harm their business in the US, while some cited possible supply chain disruptions from trade friction. Five percent said they believe the effects of US policy will be moderately positive for them. NHK surveyed 100 major companies from mid-December through mid-January. Eighty-two firms responded. Seventy percent said they have no plans to change their current business in the US, while 19 percent said they will expand their current business or invest in new projects.
