Line Pay service in Japan to be terminated in April 2025 NHK

Tech company Line Yahoo says it will terminate its Line Pay mobile money transfer and payment service in Japan on April 30, 2025.

Line Yahoo says the decision is to integrate the service into the PayPay service, which is run by another company within the group.

The firm says Line Pay balances can be transferred to the PayPay service or refunded upon request by users.

The services of Line Pay credit cards and prepaid cards will also be terminated.

The company began providing Line Pay service in Japan in 2014. It says the number of registered users is 44 million.

It says Line Pay provided in Taiwan and Thailand are not subject to the termination and these services will continue to be available.

Line Yahoo says it intends to boost its competitiveness by focusing its management resources on the financial domain by integrating overlapping businesses.
