Myanmar's military and an alliance of ethnic armed groups have agreed on a temporary ceasefire. But the rebel alliance accuses the military of shelling its positions on Friday -- the day after the China-brokered deal took effect. In late October, the alliance launched coordinated attacks against the military in the eastern state of Shan, bordering China. The fighting continued even after Beijing said in December it had mediated a ceasefire between the military and the rebels. Both sides say they approved the latest cessation of fighting. The Ta'ang National Liberation Army, or TNLA, says the military bombarded three military facilities of the ethnic group side on Friday. The TNLA also says its forces came under attack for two hours on Saturday, forcing them to withdraw from a hill where they were stationed. The military has not commented on whether it carried out the attacks.
