A car plowed into a crowd of people in Munich in the southern German state of Bavaria on Thursday. Police say 30 people were injured. Police also say they have detained the vehicle's driver, a 24-year-old asylum seeker from Afghanistan. Although the driver's motives remain unclear, Bavaria's Premier Markus Soeder said it is suspected to be an attack. Reuters news agency distributed a video filmed shortly after the incident. It shows clothing and other items strewn around the car. People in the crowd were participating in a strike organized by a labor union when the car ramming took place. A union official told NHK that about 1,500 individuals were taking part. An international security conference is scheduled to open in Munich on Friday, bringing together senior officials from around the world. Local authorities have indicated the incident has no connection to the meeting so far.
