Nissan to launch new Leaf EV in Japan amid restructuring NHK

Struggling Japanese automaker Nissan Motor will roll out a new version of its Leaf electric vehicle for the domestic market next week.
The EV is the first model since the company drafted a restructuring plan.
Nissan says the car has a larger battery and can travel as far as 702 kilometers on a single charge.
The company also said motor noise and vibration have been reduced to make for a quieter ride.
Sugimoto Akira, a marketing and sales executive for Nissan in Japan, says he welcomes the reinvigoration of the EV market because it will allow the carmaker to stand out.
He says the company wants people to say, "Nissan has made a comeback with this car."
The automaker's global restructuring plan announced in May calls for seven factories to be closed and 20,000 jobs to be cut. This came after Nissan posted a net loss of more than 670 billion yen, or nearly 4.4 billion dollars, in the year through March.
