EU and Group of Seven leaders have vowed unwavering support for Ukraine as they visited the country on the second anniversary of the Russian invasion. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and Alexander De Croo of Belgium were in Kyiv on Saturday. Italy holds presidency of the G7 this year. The four joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on a visit to an airport near the capital where a battle was fought at the start of the invasion. Meloni said at a ceremony for the fallen soldiers that they were there to offer thanks. She spoke of the men and women who did not flee two years ago and, instead, fought for themselves, their families, and what they hold dear. Von der Leyen expressed support for Ukraine, saying "we are here to tell you that Europe will continue to stand at your side, for as long as it takes." The leaders then visited a monastery in central Kyiv. They laid flowers at a wall of photographs of Ukrainian soldiers who died in the war. The leaders' show of solidarity comes as some observers point to "fatigue" among the countries that back Ukraine.
