Japan&#039;s Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, have agreed to compile a document about their cooperation on the release of treated and diluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
                
Hayashi and Grossi held a video conference on Friday, a day after Tokyo Electric Power Company began discharging the treated and diluted water into the ocean.
                
Hayashi said Japan will ensure, with the IAEA&#039;s continued involvement, that discharges that adversely affect human health or the environment would never happen. He also reiterated that Japan will continue to provide scientific and transparent explanations to the public in and outside the country.
                
In response, Grossi said that IAEA experts are on the ground to serve as the eyes of the international community. He added that the agency will engage until the last drop of the water has been discharged.
                
Hayashi and Grossi agreed to compile a document on the two sides&#039; cooperation, such as the stationing of IAEA personnel at the Fukushima plant and monitoring water safety results that will be confirmed by the agency.
                
Last month, the IAEA released a report saying Japan&#039;s water release plan is consistent with international safety standards.
                
However, China has voiced strong opposition to the water release and suspended all imports of marine products from Japan.
