DETROIT (WWJ) -- Forecasters are calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow in the Metro Detroit area on Tuesday, with the most accumulation expected in the northern suburbs.
AccuWeather says it will be cloudy and cold with snow during the day, with either snow or a mix of snow and rain, arriving Tuesday afternoon continuing Tuesday night.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson says the snow is expected to accumulate — but just how much will accumulate depends on where you live.
At this time, Thompson said forecasters expect a slushy coating to an inch of accumulation for the city of Detroit, with 1 to 3 inches in suburbs to the north and west of the city.
Areas further north toward I-69, and into the Thumb area, could see as much as 2 to 4 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, while the further south you get, closer to the state line, you could see less than 1 inch.
The bulk of this snow is expected to fall in the overnight hours, when temperatures drop into the mid-20s, before tapering off Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, Thompson said it'll be cloudy and chilly with rain or snow shower or two, with a high of around 42 degrees.
Thursday, AccuWeather is calling for another cloudy and chilly day with a flurry or snow shower in spots and a high of 40.
Friday it'll be blustery and even colder with a couple of snow showers around and a high of only 31 degrees.
