Israeli media have reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet a Cabinet minister who opposes a new Israeli proposal for a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza.

US President Joe Biden on Friday revealed a three-phase proposal by Israel to the Islamic group Hamas that includes a six-week ceasefire and release of hostages.

Multiple far-right ministers reacted sharply, saying the deal means giving up on the elimination of Hamas.

Observers suggest there is friction within the administration. Attention is now focused on whether some agreement can be reached on the Israeli side.

Local media reports say Netanyahu is set to meet National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, one of the staunchest opponents of the proposal in the Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the US State Department said Secretary of State Antony Blinken held separate phone talks with Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz, a former defense minister who joined the war cabinet from the opposition.

They reportedly discussed the proposal to achieve a full and complete ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of all hostages.

The Israeli military announced on Monday that it continued targeted operations in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, and that its troops located weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, or UNRWA, said on social media that forced displacement has pushed over 1 million people out of Rafah.

UNRWA added thousands of families now shelter in damaged or destroyed facilities.
