The Chinese Embassy in Tokyo has reacted angrily to Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko&#039;s congratulatory message to Taiwan&#039;s president-elect Lai Ching-te.
                
The embassy responded on Sunday after Kamikawa issued a statement the previous day saying Japan &quot;congratulates the smooth implementation of the democratic election and Mr. Lai on his victory.&quot;
                
She also said, &quot;For Japan, Taiwan is an extremely crucial partner and an important friend, with which it shares fundamental values and enjoys close economic relations and people-to-people exchanges.&quot;
                
The Chinese Embassy described her comment as &quot;a serious interference in China&#039;s internal affairs,&quot; and expressed &quot;strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition&quot; to it. The embassy added that it has lodged a protest with the Japanese side.
                
The embassy also warned Japan against sending any &quot;wrong signals&quot; to &quot;Taiwan independence&quot; forces.
                
China considers Taiwan as part of its territory, and criticizes Lai as a separatist.
