Ohtani takes American League's home run crown NHK

Japanese two-way star Ohtani Shohei is the American League's new home run champion with 44 long balls.
Major League Baseball's regular season ended Sunday. He becomes the first Japanese and Asian player to win the title.

Ohtani issued a comment on the homerun title, saying that he is honored to think about the great Japanese players who have played well in the Major Leagues. He said he wants to thank his teammates, coaching staff and fans who helped him achieve this goal.

On Saturday, before winning the title, Ohtani made his first appearance at Angel Stadium since having surgery on his right elbow about two weeks ago.

He was named the Los Angeles Angels' Most Valuable Player and received a huge ovation.
