Intel has announced that it has made an agreement with ASUS to manufacture and sell existing plus next-gen NUC Mini PCs to clients.
ASUS To Carry The Torch of Intel's NUC Mini PC Platform As Chipzilla Announces New Agreement
The announcement comes just a week after Intel stated that it would be exiting the NUC Mini PC segment. The NUC lineup of Mini PCs was amongst one of the most interesting consumer-based options available within the industry ranging from several entry-level and high-end SFF designs & although Intel will no longer be making any NUC themselves, they have made an agreement with ASUS to develop the next line of NUCs.
In its presser, Intel states that they have agreed to a term sheet with ASUS which allows the OEM to develop and sell 10th to 13th Gen NUC systems product line while also readying next-gen NUC PCs.
Our NUC systems product team delivered unique products that spurred innovation in the ultra-small form factor market. As we pivot our strategy to enable ecosystem partners to continue NUC systems product innovation and growth, our priority is to ensure a smooth transition for our customers and partners. I am looking forward to ASUS continuing to deliver exceptional products and supporting our NUC systems customers.
–Sam Gao, Intel vice president and general manager of Intel Client Platform Solutions
ntel hasn't revealed the specifics of this agreement but it looks like ASUS will be getting some sort of special treatment versus the other NUC system providers who will also be making their Mini PC products. ASUS was selected due to their expertise and track record for delivering industry-leading Mini PCs such as their PN, PB, and PL series. Whether Intel will shift its existing NUC product line to ASUS and let them market as they see fit remains to be seen.
