Major truck maker Isuzu Motors has announced plans to build a new plant in South Carolina. The project will cost about 280 million dollars.
Isuzu says the factory will go into operation in 2027 and employ more than 700 workers.
The company says the annual production capacity will reach 50,000 vehicles by 2030.
Isuzu plans to manufacture light and medium-duty trucks at the plant. It will also produce some light-duty electric trucks while monitoring demand.
The announcement comes at a time when the administration of President Donald Trump is stressing the need to create more jobs and draw investment to the US.
Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru said at a meeting with Trump last week that he wants to scale up his country's investment in the US to around one trillion dollars.
