Russian leaders have seen Western allies of Ukraine impose sanctions on their oil industry. Now, they are hitting back with restrictions of their own. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced on Friday that Russia would cut oil production in March by about 5 percent. That is a reduction of 500,000 barrels a day. He added that any countries that have placed a price cap on Russian oil would be completely cut off. The announcement coincides with a new push by Russian forces on the battlefield. They launched an offensive across wide areas of Ukraine. Leaders in Kyiv said they tracked 71 missiles and managed to shoot down 61 of them. They said some crossed into the airspace of neighboring Moldova and Romania. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, "This proves once again that terror does not and will not understand any boundaries, that defending Ukraine is defending all of Europe and the whole world." Officials in Moldova echoed those comments. They lashed out at what they describe as Russia's "latest unfriendly actions." However, authorities in Romania say they have seen no evidence that missiles passed over their territory. And US officials say they have "no indication" of a direct threat to the two countries.
