Typhoon Yagi has caused widespread damage in Vietnam as it barreled its way through northern parts of the country. The storm brought torrential rains that continued to fall for much of last week. Authorities on Tuesday said the latest figures show 291 people died and 38 remain missing following massive landslides and flooding. The government is worried the effects of the storm will severely impact the economy. Industrial complexes in northern cities including Hai Phong experienced flooding and blackouts. Some factories were forced to halt operations. On Monday, officials said the cost of the damages could total 40 trillion Vietnamese Dong, about 1.6 billion dollars. They estimate this year's GDP growth may drop 0.15 percent from the preliminary forecast.
