Japan&#039;s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio says the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party will continue discussing new rules for its factions to restore public trust, amid a political fund scandal involving the groups.
                
Kishida made the remark to reporters on Friday. He said on Thursday that he is considering disbanding the faction that he previously headed.
                
The LDP taskforce for political reform has begun discussions on the need for factions.
                
Asked how he will handle this debate, Kishida said that people are suspicious that factions are for collecting money and gaining posts. He said the party should consider drawing up new rules for policy groups to regain public trust.
                
Kishida said he mentioned the possible disbandment of the faction that he previously headed with the aim of regaining public trust in politics. But he added that he is not in a position to say how other factions of the LDP should respond.
                
On efforts to clarify the details of the fundraising scandal, Kishida said he will consider his response at an appropriate timing after seeing the results of the prosecutors&#039; investigation.
