Japan's Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru has met with the head of a Japanese conglomerate who recently held talks with US President-elect Donald Trump. Ishiba dined with SoftBank Group CEO Son Masayoshi at a restaurant in Tokyo on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Muto Yoji were also present. Son visited Trump at his estate in Florida last month, and announced that SoftBank Group will invest 100 billion dollars in the United States. Sources say Ishiba and Son exchanged opinions on future Japan-US relations and economic policies, as well as US President Joe Biden's order blocking the planned buyout of US Steel by Japanese rival Nippon Steel. Son told reporters after the dinner that Ishiba said he wants to hear about various matters because relations with Washington are important, so he spoke freely. The SoftBank chief also said Ishiba asked about Trump's view on economy, and he told the prime minister about his impressions. Ishiba has not met the incoming president in person.
