US technology giants report increases in sales, profits NHK

Three of the US technology giants posted gains in both sales and profits for the October-to-December quarter last year.

Apple's sales rose 2 percent from a year earlier to more than 119 billion dollars thanks to robust performances in services such as music and video streaming.
Net income increased 13 percent to 33.9 billion dollars.

Amazon.com says its e-commerce business performed well during the year-end shopping season.
Amazon booked sales of over 169.9 billion dollars, or up about 14 percent from the same quarter a year earlier.
Net income jumped 38.2 times to about 10.6 billion dollars, reflecting a one-time charge in the year-earlier quarter.

Meta Platforms, formally known as Facebook, posted a 25 percent gain in sales to about 40.1 billion dollars in the period. That was attributed to an increase in internet advertisement revenue. The company's net income tripled to about 14 billion dollars.
