Pickup trucks in focus for Thailand motor show NHK

Japanese pickup trucks are popular with motorists in Thailand, but China's automakers want a bigger share of the market. They're showing off their latest models at a major show near Bangkok.

Forty-two car brands from around the world are taking part in the Thailand International Motor Expo, which opens on Friday and runs through December 10.

Chinese makers are focusing on pickups. Geely Auto Group is showing off a new electric model, and Great Wall Motor has unveiled a hybrid.

Chinese auto firms are turning their attention to Southeast Asia in light of US President-elect Donald Trump, who says he'll raise tariffs on all imported Chinese goods.

Michael Chong of Great Wall Motor described Thailand as a strategic market where the firm will invest over the coming years.

Japan's automakers are also at the expo. Isuzu Motors is showing pickup trucks with improved fuel efficiency.
