Russian state media say jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has been charged with espionage.
                
On Friday, the Tass and Interfax news agencies quoted a law enforcement official as saying the Federal Security Service had formally charged the American journalist.
                
Security officials detained Gershkovich on March 30 for allegedly collecting information about a &quot;state secret&quot; linked to the military.
                
Tass says he categorically denies all accusations.
                
The Kremlin on Thursday said that Russia&#039;s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has discussed the case with US Ambassador Lynne Tracy.
                
Russia&#039;s foreign ministry says Ryabkov stressed that Gershkovich had been caught red handed, and that his release is unlikely.
                
On March 31, US President Joe Biden called on Moscow to free the reporter.
                
And in phone talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Sunday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the detention &quot;unacceptable&quot;.
