Toyota Industries says its chairman and vice chairman will step down. This comes after irregularities were found in safety test data at the machine maker.
The company said Thursday that chairman Toyoda Tetsuro will leave his post and become a senior adviser. Vice Chairman Onishi Akira will also quit. He will become a director without right of representation.
Toyoda will be replaced by Toyota Motor Senior Executive Officer Terashi Shigeki, who once served as the automaker's executive vice president.
The transport ministry issued a correction order to Toyota Industries on February 22nd, demanding drastic reforms.
This came after a data falsification scandal involving engines for forklifts, construction machinery and vehicles. Toyota Industries is Japan's biggest forklift maker.
The company says the resignations don't mean Toyoda and Onishi are taking responsibility for the scandal, nor that they are being punished. It says dealing with the problem requires new management.
Toyota Industries says the reshuffle will be made official at a shareholders' meeting scheduled for June.
