Reports: 42 killed in Gaza City air strikes NHK

Reuters news agency quotes a Hamas media official as saying Israeli attacks in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday have killed at least 42 people.

Footage showed dust from collapsed buildings filling the air, people holding their children and fleeing, and others carrying the wounded on stretchers.

Israeli forces said on social media that their fighter jets struck two Hamas military infrastructure sites in the Gaza City area.

The number of civilian casualties have continued to increase. Gaza health authorities said Israeli forces shelled tent camps outside the southern city of Rafah on Friday, killing at least 25 people.

There is growing concern of fighting intensifying in the north. Israeli forces said they conducted a strike in neighboring Lebanon on Saturday to eliminate an operative supplying weapons to the Islamic group Hamas.

Israel has also said it conducted airstrikes on military targets of the Shia Muslim group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
