Tokyo traffic headaches winding down after Monday's snow NHK

The Tokyo metropolis and its surrounding areas were walloped with heavy snow Monday and traffic in and around the city was still feeling it Tuesday.

Aerial footage taken Tuesday morning showed the capital blanketed in white.

It started snowing heavily late Monday evening. Some downtown areas saw 8 centimeters of snow on the ground overnight.

Transportation services were widely affected with some trains forced to stop entirely.

While the snow was over by Tuesday evening, the disruptions were not. Some Tokyo highways are still closed, including the Metropolitan Expressway. It's made up of several highways that connect downtown Tokyo to its suburbs.

It's expected to reopen Wednesday morning.
