Officials in the western Japanese city of Okayama have lifted all the evacuation orders that they issued to residents. They say the wildfires have been brought under control. On Friday morning, the city decided to lift the orders that had been issued to 1,146 people in the Kogushi area. The orders affected 627 households. Rain continued in the city from Thursday night through early Friday morning. The fires started in the city on Sunday. By noon on Thursday, they had burned about 565 hectares. That made them the largest wildfires in the prefecture's history. Six structures, including homes and warehouses, have been damaged. But no injuries have been reported. About 400 fire fighters were mobilized on Thursday to extinguish the blazes. That was the largest number deployed since the wildfires broke out. The fire fighters battled the blazes on the ground and from the air. Eleven helicopters were used. Some of the aircraft belong to the Self-Defense Forces. In the neighboring city of Tamano, officials lifted all the evacuation orders that had been issued to residents. They say it is unlikely that the wildfires in Okayama will spread to the city.
