HP ‘disabled my entire printer’ after I canceled my free trial – I don’t owe them money but still can’t use it

AN HP customer says their printer has been disabled after they canceled their free Instant Ink trial.
HP Instant Ink is a monthly subscription service that automatically delivers ink or toner cartridges to your door when your printer is running low.
An HP customer was unable to use their printer after they canceled their Instant Ink subscription
The customer took to Reddit to share their problems after buying an HP printer.
“I recently purchased an HP Laserjet and I did the 3-month Instant Ink trial,” the post began.
“When speaking with an HP rep on the phone, they told me that when I am done with the trial, I can simply ‘not renew it’ and I can keep whatever ‘free ink’ I received during the trial.”
However, this customer’s experience would be anything but simple.
“Flash forward a few months and my printer just stops working suddenly,” the post continued.
“I call, spend an hour on video chat with them only to be told that the printer can’t be fixed but it’s still under warranty for over a year so they can send me a ‘brand new printer.’
Instead of a brand new printer, the customer was sent a refurbished printer.
And that was far from the end of their troubles.
“The problem is, this printer was also not working,” they revealed.
“I am then told by the rep that the entire printer is disabled because my Instant Ink account is suspended and I’d have to transfer to them to get it fixed.
“Keep in mind, I do not owe them any money, I just didn’t continue after my trial but they bricked my printer remotely because I didn’t continue the trial.”
“I ask the rep what I am supposed to do with this nearly full ink. She responds, ‘You can just throw it in the trash.'”
The customer warned: “Do not buy HP, they are an awful company with awful policies.”
The U.S. Sun has contacted HP for comment.

ALL ABOUT INSTANT INNK
HP Instant Ink is a monthly subscription service that automatically delivers ink or toner cartridges to your door.
Plans start at $1.49 per month and are based on how often you print, not how much ink you use.
You can change or cancel your plan anytime with no additional fee.
However, if you cancel, any unused ink cartridges you’ve paid for will stop working at the end of that billing cycle.
In other consumer news, see why a Costco customer was angry about the number of closed self-checkouts.
And find out which “stupid policies” are pushing Kroger shoppers to boycott.
