Toronto Airport's chilling message just hours before horror plane crash revealed

The Delta plane was seen upside down. 
Hours before a Delta Air Lines plane crashed in Canada on Monday, Toronto's Pearson International Airport warned it was cleaning up a runway so that aircrafts could "safely arrive and depart" following a weekend snowstorm.

The Delta plane was arriving from Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Monday when the accident took place. Images on social media showed the plane flipped over on a runway, as shocked passengers exited and emergency crews surrounded the aircraft.

"Here's a look at part of our airfield this morning as the clean up continues from this weekend's storm," Toronto Pearson Airport wrote on X, hours before the accident on Monday.

"Our crews worked all weekend to keep the roughly 5 million square meters of airfield clear of snow to keep planes arriving and departing safely."

At least eight people have been injured in the incident, with the extent of their injuries unclear, CP24 reported.

In another X post following the crash, Toronto Pearson said all passengers and crew were accounted for.

"Toronto Pearson is aware of an incident upon landing involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis. Emergency teams are responding," Toronto Pearson wrote on X following the accident.

Police and emergency crews are at the scene. The airport shut down all arrivals and departures, staff told CTV News.

In another social media post before the accident, Toronto Pearson said that the snowstorm had dumped 22cm (nearly 9 inches) of snow at the airport.

"Today, we're expecting a busy day in our terminals with over 130,000 travellers on board around 1,000 flights," the airport said on X. "Our airfield team has continued their work throughout the night to clear critical areas so planes can safely arrive and depart."

In a video shared on social media, a passenger showed the immediate aftermath of the accident, with the Delta plane upside down on the runway as smoke billowed from the aircraft.

"We're in Toronto, we just landed, our plane crashed. It's upside down...most people are going to be okay, we're all getting off," the passenger said.

The incident is one of several plane accidents involving US aircrafts over the last month.

Last month, an American Airlines plane and an Army helicopter collided in midair near Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport, killing 67 people in the deadliest air disaster in the US since 2001.

Just days later, a medical transportation plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing all six people on the Learjet 55 air ambulance, including a girl who had been receiving treatment.

Earlier this month, a Japan Airlines plane has struck the tail of a parked Delta plane at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington. No injuries were reported.
