Ukrainian government officials in charge of agricultural and food policies are visiting northeastern Japan to study recovery efforts after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
                
Ukraine is one of the world&#039;s biggest producers of wheat. But much of its farmland and agricultural facilities have been destroyed by Russia&#039;s invasion.
                
The six-member delegation arrived in Japan on Sunday.
On Tuesday, the group traveled to Sendai City, where they were briefed on the disaster that occurred 12 years ago.
                
City officials used maps and photos to explain how much of the farmland was inundated by seawater, and how about 80 percent of the flooded land became arable again three years later.
                
Agrarian Policy and Food Deputy Minister Markiyan Dmytrasevych remarked that he was moved by the speed of recovery and felt that Ukraine must get to work fast too.
                
He indicated that what the delegation has learned will be put to practice in Ukraine&#039;s reconstruction plan.
                
The group plans to also visit agricultural facilities in the tsunami-affected cities of Higashimatsushima and Ishinomaki through Thursday.
