Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 15,403 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Sunday.
The figure is up 1,756 from a week ago. The daily tally has marked a week-on-week increase for 20 straight days.
The ministry also confirmed 19 deaths.
The number of seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines is up one from Saturday to 44.
Nationwide, 149,665 new cases and 306 deaths were confirmed on Sunday.
