Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 15,403 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Sunday. The figure is up 1,756 from a week ago. The daily tally has marked a week-on-week increase for 20 straight days. The ministry also confirmed 19 deaths. The number of seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines is up one from Saturday to 44. Nationwide, 149,665 new cases and 306 deaths were confirmed on Sunday. The total number of fatalities from coronavirus infections in the country now stands at 55,325.
