Several media outlets in Myanmar are reporting that the military has moved ousted and detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi out of a prison in the capital Naypyitaw. It is not clear where she has been taken to.
                
A military spokesperson claimed it is taking measures to protect elderly people from severe heat. He said the effort is not only for 78-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi, but people who need it.
                
April is the hottest time of the year in Myanmar.
                
Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained since the military coup in 2021. The pro-democracy figure was convicted of corruption and other charges. Her prison term was reduced last August, but she still has over 25 years to serve.
                
Her legal team told NHK it has not heard about any transfer. It says her prison lacks air-conditioning.
                
Analysts say the junta&#039;s treatment of Aung San Suu Kyi may be an attempt to fend off public backlash. The military in February announced conscription, prompting many young people to flee to neighboring Thailand or join pro-democracy forces.
