Ukrainian forces reportedly waged a drone attack on one of Russia's largest steel factories on Saturday. The assault came exactly two years after Moscow launched its invasion of Ukraine. Citing an intelligence source, Ukrainian media outlets reported that Ukrainian drones hit a major steel factory in the central Russian region of Lipetsk. They said the strike caused a large fire. The plant apparently produces materials that are used to build missiles and drones for the Russian military. The regional governor admitted that a fire had broken out. It is believed that Ukraine's forces have been using drones to strike Russian oil and infrastructure facilities since early this year. Russia has also been carrying out drone attacks across Ukraine. On Sunday, Ukraine's air force said it had shot down 16 of 18 Russian drones that flew over the Kyiv region and areas located in the eastern and southern parts of the country. In Russia, voting in the nation's presidential election is scheduled to take place from March 15 through 17. President Vladimir Putin is effectively assured of victory. Russia's state-run media outlets cited a local election commission as saying that early voting started on Sunday in the region of Zaporizhzhia. Observers say Putin's administration is trying to consolidate its control over Zaporizhzhia and the three other Ukrainian regions that Moscow unilaterally annexed by pressing ahead with what it describes as an election.
