An official of Alexei Navalny&#039;s support group says the Russian opposition leader was close to being freed in a prisoner swap when he died.
                
The group&#039;s senior official on Monday said talks were underway to exchange Navalny for a former Russian FSB security service agent who was in jail in Germany.
                
The group said it got confirmation that negotiations for the swap were in their final stages on February 15, the day before Navalny died at an Arctic penal colony.
                
The group alleged that Navalny was killed because President Vladimir Putin could not tolerate him being free.
                
Russian officials have yet to release any statement responding to the allegations.
                
Group of Seven leaders released a statement demanding that Moscow clarify the circumstances around Navalny&#039;s death.
                
The head of Ukraine&#039;s Defence Intelligence on Sunday gave a different view about the cause of death. Kyrylo Budanov said Navalny died from a blood clot.
