A Shinkansen bullet train collided with a bear in northern Japan on Thursday. The service was temporarily halted.
East Japan Railway Company, or JR East, says the Yamagata Shinkansen train bound for Tokyo hit a bear at around 10 a.m. between the stations of Itaya in Yamagata Prefecture and Niwasaka in Fukushima Prefecture.
The company says no passengers or staff were injured, and that inbound services were suspended for about an hour to carry out a check.
JR East says there was another collision with a bear on the same line in June, causing a suspension of service.
