'Godzilla Minus One' wins Best Visual Effects Oscar NHK

The Japanese movie "Godzilla Minus One" has won the 2024 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. This is the first time a Japanese movie has won an Oscar in the category.

The film is the 30th Japan-made movie featuring Godzilla. It debuted in November last year, ahead of the 70th anniversary of the series' first film, released in 1954.

It is also the highest grossing live-action Japanese film in US box office history.

Director Yamazaki Takashi was behind the visual effects and scriptwriting. In his acceptance speech, he said, "This award is proof that everyone has the chance."
