Japan's Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru has expressed his intention to visit the United States if necessary at an early date amid rising concerns over the new US tariff policy. Ishiba made the comment in a Diet committee meeting on Monday. A member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party urged Ishiba to visit the US, adding it is also important to speak with US President Donald Trump by phone. Ishiba said in response that he wants to visit the US as soon as possible if necessary to deal with what could be described as a national crisis. Ishiba also said he thinks he has to clearly tell Trump that Japan does not conduct any unfair practices and he would like to discuss with him how to create jobs and bring peace and prosperity to the world together with the US. In answering a question by a member of the largest opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Ishiba said Japan is the country that has made the biggest investment and created the largest number of jobs in the US. Ishiba said he wants the US side to understand that Japan has not exploited the country and to appropriately value and recognize Japan's contributions. He also said he would like to sincerely negotiate with Trump by offering logical explanations one by one, without becoming emotional.
