Israel issues 'final warning' to Houthis at UN Security Council meeting NHK

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations has issued what he called a "final warning" to the Yemen-based Houthi rebels to halt their attacks on Israel.

The Israeli military carried out airstrikes on the international airport in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and other Houthi targets in the country on Thursday.

The strikes were in retaliation for Houthi ballistic missile attacks on Israel's major commercial city of Tel Aviv.

The UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting on Monday amid growing concern about possible escalation of the conflict.

The participants at the meeting condemned the Houthi missile attacks and expressed concern about the Israeli airstrikes. They called for de-escalation.

Israel's envoy to the UN, Danny Danon, said that the Houthi group has "unleashed almost 300 unprovoked missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli civilians and communities" for over a year.

He added, "Don't call for de-escalation when we defend ourselves."

Danon warned the Houthis: "Allow me to remind you what has happened to Hamas, to Hezbollah, to Assad towards those who have attempted to destroy us. Let this be your final warning. This is not a threat. It is a promise."

The Houthis have said they will continue their operations until attacks on the Gaza Strip are halted.
