Japan has decided to provide just over 60 million dollars in additional humanitarian aid for Myanmar.
Myanmar's military continues to rule the country, two years after a coup. Earlier this month, they extended the state of emergency for another six months.
The Japanese government says humanitarian aid for the people of Myanmar continues to be an urgent issue.
The government plans to work with international organizations, including the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, to provide food and medicine. It will also assist infrastructure development and medical services, as well as the implementation of measures against illegal drugs.
Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa said Japan will continue to provide assistance and stand with the people of Myanmar, who are facing hardship.
