Pakistan summons US envoy over Biden's nuclear remarks NHK

Pakistan's foreign minister has summoned the US ambassador after President Joe Biden questioned the safety of the country's nuclear program.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Saturday that "as far as the question of the safety and security of Pakistan's nuclear assets are concerned, we meet all -- each and every -- international standard in accordance with the IAEA."

Biden had said on Thursday that Pakistan is "maybe one of the most dangerous nations in the world. Nuclear weapons without any cohesion."

Pakistan's top diplomat said he did not think the decision to summon the ambassador would negatively affect bilateral relations.
The administration of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been trying to rebuild Pakistan's ties with the US. They had soured due to his predecessor's antagonistic stance toward Washington.
