The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven nations are expected to discuss the situations in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific region, including China, when they meet in Japan later this month.
                
The three-day meeting is set to begin on April 16 in the town of Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, ahead of the G7 leaders&#039; summit in Hiroshima in May. Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken are among those scheduled to attend.
                
Hayashi is expected to brief his counterparts about Prime Minister Kishida Fumio&#039;s recent visit to Ukraine and measures Japan has taken over the Ukrainian situation.
                
The participants will likely affirm that they will remain united in maintaining sanctions against Russia and in their support for Ukraine.
                
As the only G7 member from Asia, Japan plans to take up the Indo-Pacific region, including China, as a topic of discussion.
                
The ministers are expected to exchange views on the latest developments in the region. Hayashi visited China earlier this month.
                
The participants will likely confirm that they will not tolerate any unilateral attempt to change the status of quo by force, and will work together to maintain and strengthen international order.
                
The Japanese government hopes the outcome of the discussions will be reflected in the Hiroshima summit next month.
