Japanese man shot, wounded in robbery case in Manila NHK

The Japanese embassy in the Philippines raised a safety alert after a Japanese national was shot and wounded in a robbery.

The embassy said in a report that two robbers assaulted the man in Manila's central Makati City on Wednesday night. The victim is in his 30s and was walking alone on the street.

The report said the assailants approached on a motorbike and snatched the man's shoulder bag, but then dropped it. He was shot from behind when he picked up the bag and tried to run away. He reportedly sustained a minor arm injury and his condition is not life-threatening.

This was the 15th gunman-involved robbery case believed to target Japanese nationals in central Manila since October last year. Among them, this was the second example of injury.

The embassy is calling on Japanese nationals to refrain from walking outside at night, and not to resist if assaulted, giving top priority to protecting their own lives.
