Ukraine claims missile attack on Russian Black Sea command post NHK

Ukraine's military says it has conducted a missile attack on a command post for Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.

The military said on Wednesday that the attack on the target near Sevastopol was successful.

The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said Russian forces prevented the attack.

Ukraine has been repeatedly attacking Russian forces on and off the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia unilaterally annexed in 2014.

The Ukrainian military said it damaged several Russian military vessels, including a landing ship and a submarine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last week that the military destroyed a Russian air defense system in western Crimea.

The governor of the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine said on Wednesday that a Russian missile attack in Kupiansk has killed eight people, including volunteers who had been supporting evacuees.

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley told reporters on Tuesday that Ukrainian forces are making "steady progress" in their counteroffensive. But he said it is a "tough fight" to drive out up to 300,000 troops in Russian-occupied areas in Ukraine.
