A senior Iranian official says the country has finalized a deal to purchase Russian fighter jets, attack helicopters and other aircraft.
Iran's Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday published an interview with Deputy Defense Minister Mahdi Farahi. In it, he said arrangements have been finalized and the relevant process is underway.
He said the plans include Su-35 fighter jets, Mi-28 attack helicopters and jet trainer aircraft.
This comes after the US government suggested last week that Iran might be considering providing Russia with ballistic missiles and in return would buy military equipment.
Tehran has denied speculation that it has been supplying drones to Russia, which continues its invasion of Ukraine.
But Western nations are wary as if the deal is realized it would further Iran-Russia military cooperation.
